Cottage Grove Transition Gardens hopes to encourage and facilitate local food production by converting un-used and under-used land at people's homes and within the community to productive food gardens.
Transition Gardens is a volunteer-driven organization that will work with you to transform your yard to grow some of your own food. We'll bring in volunteers and materials and expertise to create new garden beds for you to use, and will provide gardening expertise to help you be successful. And in return, you agree to volunteer to help in two other food garden implementations for other Cottage Grove households.
It's a barn-raising experience, except without the barn and with raised beds instead. And even though we supply the volunteer help to get you started, it's your garden and you choose what you want to grow and how.
Our ultimate goal is to educate our community on the benefits of producing wholesome, high-quality, fresh fruits and vegetables locally, and increase the pool of skilled local gardeners.
We're just getting started, and we want your help. Join us if you want our help to develop a garden at your home or if you just want to help share your passion and expertise in gardening.
